Course Brief

The New Zealand Diploma in Information Technology Technical Support (Level 5) qualification has been developed as part of the Targeted Review of Qualifications (TROQ) process by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).
The Institute of IT Professionals New Zealand (IITP) and NZQA National Qualifications Services are noted as the qualification developers on the Qualification Details form. The development process required widespread consultation with tertiary education providers, IT professionals, employer groups, end-users and others to ensure that qualification outcomes meet stakeholder requirements.
As such, the qualification is acceptable to a wide range of important stakeholders. FutureCOL has undertaken consultation with a range of stakeholders to confirm that the programme meets the Graduate Profile Outcomes of the qualification. These include employers, academics and industry.
All have supported the proposed programme leading to the New Zealand Diploma in Information Technology Technical Support (Level 5).
The New Zealand Diploma in Information Technology Technical Support Level 5 consists of six components at Level 5, totalling 120 credits. Content covers:

  • Modern Data Communications
  • Applied Communications
  • Systems and Applications Support
  • Systems Installation and Maintenance
  • Application Design and Development
  • Database Development and Design

Admission criteria

For admission to this programme, candidates must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have completed Certificate in Computing level 3 or 4; or successful completion of New Zealand Year 12 secondary schooling; or international equivalent; and/or appropriate related work experience.
  • International students require IELTS 5.5 (Academic) with no band less than 5.0 (Academic) or NZCEL Level 4 (Academic) or equivalent level of English.

  • 2017: 12 January, 23 February, 30 March, 26 May, 22 June, 17 August, 14 September, 16 October, 07 December


Course fees apply. If eligible, NZ students can apply for Studylink Student loan and allowance to assist while studying.

Course fees are separate for Level 5 and Level 6. You can try Level 5 first before enrolling in Level 6 to ensure this industry is right for you.
